Candela is the unit of luminous intensity at a specific point, measured within a certain solid angle.

• When a beam of light is more concentrated, the solid angle becomes narrower, causing the light intensity (the number of Candelas) to increase.

Candela therefore indicates how intense a beam of light is, not the total amount of light.

Why is Candela not listed on all lamp packaging?

Most lamps emit light in all directions. For such lamps, the Candela value is less relevant, because this unit mainly applies to spotlights and reflector lamps, where the light is directed in a specific direction.

In short: Candela is important for estimating how powerful and concentrated the light from a spotlight or reflector is, but not for ordinary lamps that emit light everywhere.
