How do I choose the right lighting for the bathroom?

Different safety zones apply in the bathroom, and for each zone it is important to consider the correct IP rating of the lighting. The IP rating indicates how well a lamp is protected against dust and water.

Zone 0

Lighting is in direct contact with water, for example in a bathtub or shower tray.

  • Minimum IP rating: IP67

  • These lamps must be completely waterproof and suitable for immersion.

Zone 1

Lighting may get water on the surface, for example on the wall near a shower or above a washbasin.

  • Minimum IP rating: IP44

  • Recommended IP rating: IP65 for extra protection against splashing water.

Zone 2

Lighting is located in a humid environment, but does not come into direct contact with water, for example on a wall further from the shower.

  • Minimum IP rating: IP44

  • These lamps are splash-proof and suitable for use in damp rooms.

Choosing the correct IP rating is essential for the safety and durability of your bathroom lighting.
