Regular LED lighting and smart lighting, what is the difference?

Customers often ask us what the differences are between regular lighting and smart lighting, and which is most suitable. By understanding the distinction, you can choose the right equipment that fits your needs and goals.

 

Understanding regular vs. smart lighting

  • Regular lighting is developed as you are used to, plug & play. You connect the wiring of your lighting to the mains power or into the fitting of your fixture and operate it via a button or switch.

  • Smart lighting emphasises 'smart'; you connect it physically in the same way as you connect your regular lighting, but it contains a chip that you connect directly to your Wi-Fi network, this is done via an app on your smartphone. Once connected, you no longer need to worry about physical switches and buttons. As soon as the lighting is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, you can turn the lighting on and off anywhere in the world via a smart app, schedule when it turns on or off, create smart scenes, and monitor your power consumption. Prefer to turn it on with a button? With a smart remote you control your smart lighting like regular lighting, with all the advantages of the smart features.
     

Important to consider

Is there a place in your home where you just want to turn on a light switch on your wall, such as a bathroom or kitchen for immediate bright light? Then regular lighting is recommended. If you want to turn on your smart lighting this way, you reset the lighting and it needs to be reconnected. If you want your equipment to turn on seamlessly on a schedule without ever having to press a button, then smart lighting is highly recommended. Make sure you always have a stable internet connection and that your 2.4 GHz network is enabled; most smart lighting does not work on a 5 GHz connection.
